Puck
Custom Action Figures - Marvel
Wednesday, 31 October 2007
PuckA long while back, perhaps around the start of the year, someone started a discussion on the Fwoosh about customizing a Puck from Alpha Flight, asking for suggested recipes.  I suggested using some of the bigger figures from the Superhero Showdown series of figures, since those are in 3 3/4 inch scale.

I had been thinking about that for some time, since a lot of people had been going through a lot of work to shorten standard Marvel Legends figures (my favorite is Grownnerd's Puck, because he comes with an awesome custom Sasquatch) - I thought SHS would provide a more suitable base with less effort.  Others had the same idea - I've seen Pucks from both Discogod and dagodfather - both used SHS Juggernaut as the base.

Daredevil v2
Custom Action Figures - Marvel

Daredevil v2Around this time last year, I had just finished up working on some modifications on the Face Off Daredevil from Toy Biz.  At the time, I was really happy how they turned out.  Fast forward to a few days ago, when I had in my hands a Captain Marvel figure.  I had seen an online sale for him (long since gone), and since he's based on the Bullseye body, I knew he was good fodder.

I thought briefly about Captain Britain (the old school version before he got buff), like Ibentmymanthing had done a while ago, but when Robokillah told me he had his hands full with paint work, I gave up on that idea pretty quickly.  Then I remembered I had just bought a can of red vinyl dye.

Daredevil, version 2, was born!  (Anyone have some cheap Captain Marvels available?)

Banshee and Cyclops (Unstoppable)
Custom Action Figures - Marvel
Friday, 17 August 2007

As you may have surmised from the lack of updates, I haven't had much time to customize recently.  Despite the lack of time, I still have felt the customizing itch, every so often - though I'm often discouraged because I know that I won't really be able to do more substantial projects.

I did manage to squeak out these two customs over the past few months.  Banshee was something that I finished up at the start of the year, but didn't think it merited it's own entry.  Cyclops, in his costume from the latest Astonishing X-Men arc, Unstoppable, was something I whipped up a few weekends ago.

Ghost Rider
Custom Action Figures - Marvel
Saturday, 24 March 2007
This was intended to be a very simple kitbash of two of the figures from the Ghost Rider movie line from Hasbro.  Like many other collectors, I was not fond of the small ball-joints in the hips of most of the movie figures.  Fortunately, the deluxe Ghost Rider that came with his motorcycle had ordinary-sized ball-joints there.  The downside was that his arms were long and apish-looking.

I just wanted to swap in some normally-proportioned arms from another Ghost Rider figure and call it a day.  It became a bit more complicated than that.

Cage (New Avengers)
Custom Action Figures - Marvel
Monday, 19 February 2007
This is the third custom of Luke Cage that I've done.  My first Cage was based on his Max miniseries, back in the summer of 2004.  The second, based on his appearances in Cable & Deadpool, about this time last year.  When I made each, I felt I had learned something new about customizing and it became my favorite custom.  This Cage, based on his look in the New Avengers, is no exception.

My wife is starting to wonder if I've got an obsession for big, muscular black men.  Just one, I suppose.
