daredevil1.jpgThe Face-Off assortment of figures has produced some of the best Marvel figures from Toy Biz.  Face-Off Hulk, Captain America, and Baron Strucker come to mind.  The Daredevil that came with the Kingpin figure has met with mixed reviews.  While it is the most detailed sculpt to date, compared with the earlier renditions from the Spider-Man Classics line, it's plagued by awkward shoulder articulation and arguably goes too far with clothing wrinkles.

Finding myself with a rare moment of free time, I tried to see what I could do about that.  Let me know how you think it turned out.

The first thing I did was apply the shoulder fix from  GrownNerd - that's become a staple of my customizing arsenal for figures with the shoulder hinge articulation.

After fixing the shoulders, I noticed another thing that could use improvement.  Daredevil comes with a holster for his billy clubs that's attached to his belt, but it's not attached to his leg.  In most poses, you can see the billy clubs on the underside of the holster while the holster just dangles there loosely.  When you bend his legs, the holster doesn't move with them.

I started by cutting off the plastic strap and closing the underside of the holster with sheet vinyl.  I also sanded down the place on the belt where the strapped was attached.  I then drilled a hole on the belt and one in the thigh, and then used two small nails that had been shortened to attach a new strap made from vinyl.  The nails were not inserted all the way in, so there's some play when you move the legs.  Finally, I glued the holster down to the thigh.  A more thorough customizer would probably add some sculpting compound to the thigh so the holster has someplace flat to rest.  I'm just too lazy for something like that, so if I push too hard on the holster, I'll have to glue it back on again.

Finally, I repainted the gloves, boots and area around Daredevil's eyes.  I wanted to lessen the impact of the dark wash on the gloves and boots, so the wrinkles there would be less prominent.  On the eyes, there was a poorly applied wash that made it look like his eyes were not where they should be.  I just darkened the whole area to give it some depth, and repainted the eyes in a glossy red.  I also painted the metal fixtures gold, like the belt buckle and buckles on the leg straps.

And that's it!  Hopefully it's a small adjustment that makes a difference to the production figure.
