RecipePretty much every customizing X-Men fan has done a Banshee mod from the figure that was released as part of Hasbro's first series of Marvel Legends. The universal complaint was that he was missing his trademarke collar. In addition, I felt that his skintones were really pale, even for an Irishman, and that his proportions were off - a short torso and short legs made him a bit monkey-armed.I started by repainting his flesh with my standard setup - a tan flesh base with a lighter fleshtone on top of it. I like to leave the tan flesh exposed on the lips and around the eyes. I also repainted his hair. The rest of the mods used the leftovers of an Iron Fist that I had used for an arm swap on the Spider-Man Classics Electro - this was another ubiquitous mod done by folks who hated the action-feature arms that figure came with, so I never bothered taking pictures or doing a writeup for it either. The collar is Iron Fist's collar, cut to shape, glued to the torso and blended in with Apoxie Sculpt. To give him more height, I swappen in Iron Fist's thighs. The color was a little off, so I ended up repainting the green, and gave the yellow a deeper hue with some apricot paint. Pretty much every customizing X-Men fan has done a conversion from the Xorn figure that was part of Hasbro's second series of Marvel Legends. Some turn him into a New X-Men Cyke. I'm a big Astonishing fan, and when Cyke came out of his coma (oops, spoilers) to shoot up the place, sporting his old duds, I just had to do this version. The head is a cast from the Genis-Vell variant of the Captain Marvel figure. I added some extra hair in front. The skintone is painted just like Banshee's except I had to do the eyes myself. I also added some stubble, using a technique from Robokillah - drybrushing the stubble followed by drybrushing the light skin tone. The neck and chest had to be sanded down, and filled in, as Xorn has chains and grooves all over the place. Having been out of practice I didn't do such a smooth job of it - but given the time constraints I didn't spend any time trying to fix it either, so it's pretty rough. I sanded down the detail on Xorn's boots, cause Cyke's are different. I sculpted up the boots to try to match it to the comic's looser fit. For the yellow trim, I just happened to find some thin yellow rubber bands - they're just glued down, not even painted. The stripes on his sleeves aren't exactly accurate, but I'm satisfied enough that he's got the right number of stripes there. |
