Cage (Max)

cage4.jpgI don't often have a lot of free time during the work day, but when I do, sometimes I'll visit the local Virgin store during lunch and catch up on some graphic novels.  On one such outing, I happened across the Cage MAX trade paperback.  I was struck by how different (and cool-looking) his urban look was compared to his original blaxploitation get-up, and I enjoyed the more mature content.

ClicktoviewfullsizeimageThis was one of those situations where I just happened across the right fodder to get this kicked off.  I was at another one of the closing Kaybee toys and happened across a Stone Cold Steve Austin Collectors Edition for just a couple of bucks.

His bald head and scowl were a great base for Cage, with a couple of modifications.  Used a little Super Sculpey to add his skull cap, widen his nostrils, and fill out his lower lip.

As simple as this custom is, I really enjoyed adding the extra little details.  His vest came from a RA Chris Jericho.  The chain was borrowed from the ML Ghost Rider.  The watch is two segments of a thin rubber band.  The necklace and Cage pendant are craft wire and Super Sculpey - if you look closely you might see "CAGE" etched into it.

His sunglasses eventually turned out best with Sculpey Flex.  I first used a paper cutout to get the desired size and shape.  After toothpaste tube didn't work out as well as I hoped, I rolled out a small layer of Flex and shaped it prior to baking.  At that thickness, they wrap easily around his head.  They're held in place with 2 tiny dots of reusable adhesive tack.
