Custom Action Figures -
Marvel

I'll
be the first to admit that I like the Marvel action figures that Toy
Biz is giving us. Their classic Mystique, available with Series
10 of Marvel Legends, is no exception, even though she's generated a
decent number of complaints. A lot of people are saying that
she's ugly. To me, that's ok. As I said when I posted my
Callisto custom, Mystique definitely was ugly, back in the day.
It
was the poster book that came with Mystique that confused me. In
it there were a bunch of pics of supermodel-hot modern Mystique, and
just one pic of her in her classic duds. It was all that hotness
that inspired me to make this custom.

A couple weeks ago, I reported finding what appears to be a SOTA
Charmed Series 2 Piper on the target.com website. Now it appears that
Phoebe (the character played by Allysa Milano) is joining her there.
Here are the current listings for them:

Have you ever wanted to have one of my custom action figures? Well, now you can!
In a rare, quite possibly one-time-only event, I have a custom Cyclops available on ebay. It's not my old Cyke custom
- it's brand spankin' new, and improved over the original in terms of
articulation and playability. Why this figure, and why now?
No, I'm not looking to break into the custom commission or ebay
business - I just had a few Cyclopses sitting around after building up
more Sentinels from the awesome Marvel Legends 10 series.

Our team entry for Custom Con 13, Modern Marvels: The New Thunderbolts,
was based on the comic of the same name. Being primarily an X-Men
junkie, I didn't know much about them, and I was surprised to see that
the Thunderbolts were primarily B-list villains, trying hard (or in
some cases, not hard at all) to be heroes.
I originally wanted
to make Swordsman, but as time ran out on the Custom Con deadline, I
went for the fallback plan and switched to the much simpler Purple
Man. As I read more of the comic series (thanks RoboKillah and
Industrial), I realized that Purple Man is one of the best villains
ever created. Why? Here's a guy who can control people with
his voice, and what does he do? While he's not beating down the
good guys, he's scoring with the ladies, that's what! Purple Man
is the shiznit. | |

CustomCon 13 is still on (thanks to an schedule that extends the event to three weeks instead of one)!
Our team entry, Modern Marvels: The New Thunderbolts is showing as part of Day 10 (out of 15). Stay tuned to this space for a more detailed writeup for my part of the entry, Purple Man.
Thanks to my cohorts in crime at fwooshnet.com for letting me on the team, and thanks again to Joe Acevedo for organizing the biggest CustomCon yet! |
